Duke University Medical Center Intercom VOL. 25, NO. 41 OCT. 13, 1978 DURHAM, N.C. PRT arrives After a long, but safe trip from Denver, one of the Personnel Rapid Transit (PRT) system cars arrived last week. It was carefully removed from the large van it had traveled in and hoisted gently through the air onto the guideway running between Duke Hospital South and Duke Hospital North. When Duke North opens about a year from now, the PRT car will make short, safe trips between the two divisions of the hospital, as it carries patients, visitors, personnel, equipment and supplies gently along on a cushion of air. The delivery of the car attracted many spectators and was filmed from all possible angles (see lower left photo). The new PRT car currently is waiting in the south station, near the emergency entrance. Within the next few weeks, the second car will arrive, and the guideway will be ready for testing of the system to begin. (Photos by John Becton) k
